Anita Sarkeesian was born in Canada and raised in the U.S. She's worked as media critic since. She founded Feminist Frequency the site with videos and guest posts on the representations of women in pop culture. Anita Sarkeesian a Canadian American media critic. She is the creator and director-general of Feminist Frequency which is an education, non-profit website that explores representations of women within popular stories of culture. In her efforts to dispel the myths that are associated with females in pop culture she also seeks to bring attention to harassment targeted at women and the other marginalized groups of the Internet environment. Sarkeesian, who holds a Master's in the field of Social and Political thought in the field of social and political thought from York University, is a sought after public speakers. She has given speeches at the TEDxWomen festival as well as United Nations Broadband Working Group to Gender. While a student at university she became fascinated by the issue of gender and rights for women in the early stages. It was a girl who wanted to create the series of videos on the internet that would examine gender representations in video games. But, she was victimized by online harassment. Her determination was not slowed by the harassment, actually, it just reinforced her determination to be a media critic and feminist. Numerous awards have been given to her in recognition of all of the contribution she has have made.
